Traffic Video Surveillance - What is it?

A traffic video survey provides a highly accurate record of traffic or pedestrian activity taking place in a specified area.

It is often used to measure volume of traffic, junction, pedestrian movements or queue lengths, for example recording classified priority junction counts or roundabout surveys using dual cameras.

Traffic and pedestrians are less likely to alter their behaviour when passing video cameras than if they are observed by staff in high visibility jackets. The discreet nature of the video cameras allows us to capture a truly accurate record of events. The footage is often, therefore, used as evidence of any illegal activity.

Using video minimises the number of staff required on site, reducing our carbon footprint.
